Xilinx configuration PROM for the XC4010XL FPGA

Q:

In your FAQ, you recommend XC1700 series PROMs because Atmel does not make anything large enough for programming the XC4010XL in the 8 pin dip. However, I can only find XC17256 devices, which are the same size as the Atmel devices.

Is XC17256 the right part, or is there something larger?

A:

I recommend using the XC1701LPD8C with 1 Mbit of storage. It's larger than you need, but it's the only PROM Xilinx has that's large enough and runs at 5V. Read more about it at http://www.xilinx.com/partinfo/1701l.pdf.
