What information should I provide when asking for help?

Q:

What information should I provide when asking for help?

A:

The best way is to submit the online help form.

If you can't use the online help form, then this is the minimum amount of information we would like to see before offering a possible solution to someone's problem:

  1. What type of XS Board are you using (XSA-50, XSA-100, XSB-300E, etc.) and what version is it (V1.1, V1.2, etc.).
  2. What OS are you using (Win95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP or Linux)?
  3. What parallel port are you using (LPT1, LPT2, etc.) and what is the mode for the parallel port (SPP, ECP, EPP, etc.)?
  4. How are you powering the XS Board (ATX supply, 9VDC supply, 5V/3.3V direct to the pins)?
  5. What version of XSTOOLs are you using?
  6. Does your board pass XSTEST or GXSTEST?
  7. What are the symptoms of your problem?

Of course, you can post a question to the XESS email forum and offer as much or as little info as you want. But you may get a faster answer if you first provide answers to these simple questions.

However, don't provide too much information by attaching all your project files to your message and sending it to the forum! If anybody wants to see your project files, they will ask for them. And then you should send them only to the person who requests them, not to the whole group.

And for people who are kind enough to provide answers to questions - please post them to the entire group so we all can see them (unless you are posting project files).
