Can I use an XS Board with the serial (COM) port?Q:I bought an XS40-005XL Board. When I plug it in, my LED segment lights up and stays lit with the number 8 (Is this what is supposed to happen ?) and nothing changes. Even when I download the test code the display keeps displaying 8. Is there something wrong with my board? I'm using the COM2 PORT that I normally use for my modem. Can I use this? Do I need to set something else if I use COM 2 instead of the printer port? When I download the code I get no error but I get the display showing 8 all the time.
A:The XS Board has to be connected to the parallel port (that's the printer port). COM2 is a serial port. The XS Board will never work with a serial port. The LED display is dimmly lit with an '8' when the XS Board is not configured, so what you are seeing is appropriate given that the board cannot be configured through a serial port. |
